Entering his 28th year reporting from Japan, Australian-born journalist Peter Lyon contributes to more than a dozen publications worldwide. Having started out in the late 90s as a bilingual commentator on TV and radio, he currently hosts and co-writes Samurai Wheels, a bi-weekly English language TV show introducing Japan's car culture on NHK World, the country's national broadcaster. The show is broadcast to 150 countries. He is a juror for the Japan Car of the Year, a judge for the Toyota Dream Car Art Contest and a juror for the International Engine of the Year.
He has published two books in Japanese including Flashing Hazards, a book about Japan's unique car culture in 2014. He has also raced cars since 2000, culminating in a class win in a 4-hour VLN race at Nurburgring and a 4th-in-class finish in the Nurburgring 24-hour endurance race in 2010. In the Mazda MX-5 4-hour media race at Tsukuba in 2011, Lyon's team came 2nd, while his team placed 3rd in the Historic Car Race at Motegi in 2000 driving a Jaguar Mk11.
