TEAM WORLD CAR AWARDS TO COMPETE IN NURBURGRING 24-HOUR RACE

NURBURG, GERMANY – Team World Car Awards will compete in the 24-hour endurance race at Nurburgring (Official title: ADAC Zurich 24h-Rennen) on May 15-16 driving a 420hp Lexus IS-F. Having completed a testing and racing program, which started in July, 2009, all team drivers have competed in at least two 4-hour VLN races since then, a pre-requisite for entry in the 24-hour event. The team won the SP8 class in their very first 4-hour VLN race in August 2009.

Team drivers are:
Hideshi Matsuda (Japan)– ex-Indycar driver and current racer in Japan’s GT Series driving an Aston Martin V8 Vantage. As a motor journalist, he also contributes drive stories to several car magazines in Japan. He is also a juror for the Japan COTY and the World Car Awards. Winner of SP8 class, 4-hour VLN race, August 2009.

Owen Mildenhall (U.K.) – Motor journalist / racing driver. He is senior road tester for Auto Express magazine. He was the 1997 British Formula Ford First Division champion and has also competed in 24-hour races at Silverstone and Spa.

Kazunori Yamauchi (Japan) – is president of Polyphony Digital, and creator of the Gran Turismo driving simulator game. As a racing driver, he has competed in Mazda MX-5 and VW Beetle races in Japan. He is a juror for Japan COTY and the World Car Awards. Winner of SP8 class, 4-hour VLN race, August 2009.

Peter Lyon (Australia) – The co-chairman of the World Car Awards is also a motor journalist and racing driver. Has raced a Mazda MX-5 for 10 years in Japan and has driven endurance races at Fuji Speedway. He also contributes news and drive stories to a dozen global car magazines including Motor Trend and Autocar. Winner of SP8 class, 4-hour VLN race, August 2009.

The race car: Powered by a 5.0 litre V8 and fitted to a 8-speed sequential transmission, the Lexus IS-F is fitted with a one-off ex-F1 rear wing, lightweight carbon fibre body parts, wider tyres, revised suspension, 6-piston brake calipers with Project Mu pads. The IS-F has a top speed down the main straight of 265km/h and the team’s fastest lap time during VLN races was 9 minutes 34 seconds.
