Masatsugu Arimoto

After working as a vehicle designer at Nissan, and then taking up a senior editorial position at Japan's prestigious Car Styling magazine, Masatsugu Arimoto turned to freelance design journalism and consultancy in 1988. As Japan's foremost automotive design commentator, Arimoto is chairman of the Japan Auto Colour Award program, and juror on Japan's governmental "Good Design Award" committee, Car Styling's "Car Design Awards" as well as judge on the Japan Car of the Year awards. He is also a part-time design lecturer of Tokai University.

Silvia Baruffaldi

Since 1988, Ms. Baruffaldi has been working for the bimonthly magazine Auto & Design, where she is currently Managing Editor. Thanks to Auto & Design, she has contacts with design centres of car makers and consultant studios from all over the world. Based in Turin (Italian car design’s capital), Auto & Design is published in a bilingual edition, English and Italian, and it is sold in over 50 different countries worldwide. Ms. Baruffaldi also contributes design articles to Il Sole 24 Ore, an Italian financial daily newspaper, and to Autokampioen in The Netherlands.

Sam Livingstone

Sam Livingstone is an automotive design research consultant and commentator on car design.
As Director of the consultancy Car Design Research Ltd (www.cardesignresearch.com) since 2000, Sam has managed research projects for the design groups of car companies such as Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Yamaha, Fiat and Pininfarina. Recent work includes: concept definitions for a multi-car vehicle platform; scenario building around future e-car customers; design strategies for a new performance sub-brand; concept strategies for a range of Urban Electric Vehicles; and design assessment for a brand’s new form language.
Sam is an Associate Editor of Car Design News (www.cardesignnews.com), the leading international media in car design, and since 2001 has lectured at the Royal College of Art (www.rca.ac.uk) where he is now Senior Tutor in Vehicle Design.
Sam is on the World Car Of The Year design panel, is a judge on the Louis Vuitton Concept Classic, and is a contributor to the annual publication Automobile Year. He has chaired and presented papers at industry and academic automotive design events in Amsterdam, Rome, Nanjing, Copenhagen, Berlin, Vienna, Seoul and Coventry, and attends most major international auto shows.

Tom Matano

Matano has thirty years of experience in the automotive design industry. He began his design career at General Motors Design in the USA, then GM's Holden in Australia, followed by BMW in Germany. In 1983, he became a Chief Designer at Mazda North America. He eventually moved up to Executive Designer in the Global Advance Studio and the General Manager of Mazda Design when he worked for Mazda in Japan from 1999 to 2002. His accomplishments at Mazda include the MPV, MX 5, RX 7, Miata "M-Coupe" concept car, Miata "M-Speedster" concept car along with many other projects.
